Part-time Job & Studies
Pros and cons of having a part-time job while studying
Nowadays many students strive to find a part-time job. As far as I am concerned, there are both advantages and disadvantages in combining studies at university with working for a company.
Let us start with the positive aspects of having a job during studying at the university. First of all, having a part-time job is a great opportunity for students to improve their financial situation: they no longer need to make ends meet. Having extra money, they can afford to buy high-quality food, save money for some large purchases, the students are even able to rent an apartment to live in. In other words, they may live without support from their parents.
Another point of working during studies at the university is gaining an experience. It is well known that after graduation students usually cannot find a proper job, and the only reason for this is lack of experience. Employers always look for a young certified specialists who have already been working for several years. This means that students should think about the future in their first years at the university.
Now let us talk about the negative aspects of combining work and learning. First, some students, working for a good company and making a great deal of money, start to neglect their studies. This is reflected in their academic underachievement, the low rate of university attendance, etc.
Secondly, students' engagement in both working and studying processes can result in exhaustion, sleep deprivation, which are undoubtedly bad for their health. Those who feel the symptoms should review their priorities, give preference to one of their activities, rather than continue to do everyth
ing at the expense of their physical well-being.
To sum up, part-time job may be either helpful or tiresome for students, so they should always assess their capability to find a balance between their studies and work.
