Should People Hate Vegans?
These days it is very popular among people to review one's eating habits, to refuse the food which has always been considered to be conventional and irreplaceable, ultimately, to become vegans, who do not consume meat and other animal products. Not everyone wants to make any radical alterations to their diet: there are a lot of people who are completely content with what they eat. Seemingly, everyone should make their personal decisions about the lifestyle and eating habits without judging other's choices, however, there are real wars between vegans and their opponents. It is a widespread situation when people hate vegans.
According to the article "Why do people hate vegans?" (https://bit.ly/2YPP0cH) (Published 25.10.2019. Accessed 16.12.2019) written by George Reynolds there is a number of reasons why vegans are so annoying to others. The first reason is that "preachy and sanctimonious" vegans draw everybody's attention to their "right" way of eating. Secondly, many people think of veganism as a label which consumers use without thinking about the initial vegans' ideology. Thirdly, it makes non-vegans nervous to constantly come across mainstream plant-based foods everywhere. There are burgers, sausages, hot-dogs, dairy drinks without the addition of animal products almost in every café or supermarket. The last reason for hating vegans is fear of admitting the illogic and confusion of the way we eat which is showed by them: we generally like animals and are against cruelty but, at the same time, cannot live without eating crispy bacon and roast chicken.
In my opinion, there is no reason to feel extreme anger towards vegans primarily because, as it has already been said, all people have the right to make their decisions about the products they want to consume. Moreover, veganism can be beneficial not only for a specific individual's health or peace of mind for people who have become vegans due to their ethical considerations, but also for climate. Plant-based diets, according to the research of Oxford university, (https://bit.ly/36LoBQ5) (Published 12.10.2018. Accessed 16.12.2019) help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, which is probably the crucial point in slowing down the climate change.
To sum up, there are different opinions about veganism, its benefits and drawbacks, but it is absolutely clear that people should not hate either vegans or their opponents but respect everyone's food choices as each person has their own habits and preferences. In any case, food is not a reason for anger and conflicts.
